Our home testing kit enables you to check yourself and your family in the safety of your own home to see if the illness you had in the past was caused by covid-19. This IgG antibody test has shown to be 99% sensitive if taken more than 7 days after a COVID-19 illness.
We are one of the first laboratories in Europe to be able to offer this ELISA test which is specifically validated to be used with finger prick samples.
If you would like an Abbott IgG antibody test which is only validated for a venous sample you can get a 'phlebotomy kit' here.
If you need to know if you are currently suffering from Coronavirus our swab test is available here.
How it works
We will ship you our easy to use home sample collection kit right away by post or if you would prefer a courier, please select this option at checkout.
When you receive it open the package read the letter and information carefully. It is a fairly simple process to provide a blood sample via a finger prick but if you have never done it before please follow the instructions closely. A video clip showing how it's done is here.
Send us your blood sample back using the supplied packaging and return postage. Once we receive it we load your blood sample into our laboratory instrument that detects whether IgG antibodies are present. Research so far indicates this particular test to be 99% sensitive in detecting IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes the COVID-19 illness - if your sample is taken over 14 days since your illness started.
Your results will be ready within 1-2 days after arriving at our laboratory.
What will the test results tell me?
This test is to find out if you have been infected with the coronavirus in the past, and to be effective, must be taken a minimum of 7 days after you develop any symptoms.
We have a PCR Swab test available for if you want to know if you are carrying the covid-19 virus right now.
The results of this test will tell you whether or not you have the antibodies in your blood which your body may produce in response to a COVID-19 infection. If they are present then you can be 99% confident have been infected with covid-19 in the past.
There is still a lot to learn about this virus, and it should be noted that if antibodies are not present in your blood it does not necessarily mean you have not had COVID-19.
Although it is likely that having the antibodies provides at least temporary immunity to the coronavirus, it is not yet known how long that immunity may last. So, whatever the result, it is important that you continue to follow the government’s advice on social distancing and other measures designed to stop the spread of the virus.
What’s in the test kit?
You will receive the following:
- Blood collection tube
- Test request form
- Introduction letter and instructions
- Biohazard plastic bag
- Prepaid tracked return envelope
How do I get my results?
You can view your results via a secure link which is emailed to you as soon as they are available. The results will give you a clear yes or no answer as to whether the COVID-19 antibodies were detected.
How reliable is this test?
Evaluation demonstrated 99% sensitivity in detecting antibodies if taken 7 days or more after an illness caused by covid-19. This means that 99% of people who have suffered an illness caused by covid-19 will return a positive result and 1% will not.
It is important to note that it is not known yet whether people who have been infected but have not been ill, or shown any symptoms, will be positive or negative. Research into what antibody responses that people who have had asymptomatic infections develop is ongoing.
The test has demonstrated 99.4% specificity. This means that 0.6% of people will show a positive result when the illness they had more than 7 days ago was not caused by covid-19.

Why an Antibody Test?
To check if you have possibly been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the past.
Please note that there is still a lot to learn about this virus and having antibodies does not mean you definitely have immunity and not having antibodies does not necessarily mean you have not had covid-19 as not everyone develops antibodies. Also it is not yet clear how long immunity lasts even if there is any. So please don't think you can shed the masks, ditch the alcogel, leave your hands unwashed, and rush out to a party just because you get a positive result!
There is still a lot of uncertainty but it is highly likely that if you do have antibodies, you have had covid-19 and that it is quite likely that you may have at least some temporary immunity. Still, it is very important that you do not take the presence of antibodies to mean that you are able to ignore government advice about social distancing, hand hygiene and isolation.
This is a test you take if you are feeling well and want to confirm whether or not you have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in past.
You should take it after at least 2-3 weeks after any symptoms have started as it does take a while to develop the antibodies after exposure.
If you want to know if you have the virus right now then it is a throat and nose swab you need - the PCR test. This will detect the presence of the actual virus and check for active infection.
